Wellness Architecture

Climate Shapes Architecture Before Design Begins. Climate decides the shape of a building long before a single finish is chosen. In tropical architecture, especially in the Philippines, the sun's path, prevailing winds, rainfall patterns, humidity, and solar heat gain are not secondary design considerations. They are fundamental forces that should influence how a building is positioned, shaped, and experienced. Which walls receive the harshest afternoon sun? Where can natural

Over the last two weeks, we've made a claim: wellness begins with the land, not the spa. This week, we're naming the actual framework behind that claim. We call it the LAKADA Wellness Design Standard — eight domains we read on every site, before a single line gets drawn. Not a checklist borrowed from a spa brand. A lens we built from years of hospitality projects across the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, the Maldives, and Guam, where the difference between a good building

Last week we said it plainly: wellness begins with the land, not the spa. This week, here is what that actually means in practice. Five decisions. Five moments where a conventional resort project and a LAKADA project go different ways. 1. Land is cleared → Land is read first Most projects start by clearing the site to make room for the building. We start by walking it — checking the slope, the water flow, the existing trees, the direction of the sun. Nothing gets built until

Most resorts add wellness at the end. A spa is built. A yoga deck is added. The brochure gets rewritten to use the word "wellness" a dozen times. But the building itself never changes — the orientation stays the same, the materials stay the same, the layout stays the same. So, neither does what a guest actually feels when they walk in. We see this pattern across the industry, and we understand why it happens. Wellness sells. It photographs well. It's a fast way to reposition
