Wellness Architecture for Resorts, Retreats & Residences
At LAKADA Design Atelier, we design and reposition resorts, retreats and residences around genuine human wellbeing — beginning with the land, not the amenities. Every project starts with how a place will actually affect the people inside it: how they sleep, breathe, move, and rest. From there, climate, culture and material follow.
Our studio specializes in wellness-focused hospitality developments across the Philippines — from repositioning resorts whose architecture no longer fits what today's traveler is looking for, to designing new retreats from the site upward, using tropical climate-responsive design and regenerative materials including bamboo. We work closely with owners and developers who share this vision, so that design and construction quality stay aligned with one mission: places that measurably support the wellbeing of the people who use them.

Wellness begins with the land — not the spa.
Most resorts add wellness at the end. A spa is built, a yoga deck added, the brochure rewritten. The building itself never changes — so neither does what a guest actually feels.
Conventional:
1. Land is cleared
2. Buildings are placed
3. Amenities are added
4. A spa is added
5. It's marketed as "wellness"
LAKADA:
1. Land and ecology are read first
2. Climate sets the form
3. Filipino culture sets the ritual
4. Human wellbeing sets the programme
5. Architecture follows from all four
We assess every place across eight domains: Land, Climate, Body, Mind, Nature, Culture, Material, Community. Together these form the LAKADA Wellness Design Standard — our own framework, built for the Philippine tropics.
About Us
Our Approach
Our practice is built to diagnose before it designs. Every project starts with a clear read of the land, the client's goals, and the people who will actually use the space — before a single line gets drawn. From there we move through one continuous process: diagnose, strategise, design, document, deliver. The result is architecture built for what a place and its people genuinely need, not a template adjusted to fit.
Design Philosophy
We believe wellness begins with the land — not the spa. A building's power to support people comes from decisions made long before any amenity is chosen: how it reads its climate, how it honours the culture around it, how its materials feel to live with. Every LAKADA project treats these as the actual design brief, with sustainability and luxury following naturally from getting them right.
